Fake YouTube pages used to spread viruses (AP)
SAN FRANCISCO - Savvy Internet users know that downloading unsolicited computer programs is one of the most dangerous things you can do online. It puts you at great risk for a virus or another time bomb from a hacker.

But even some sophisticated surfers could get taken in by a sneaky new attack in which criminals create fake YouTube pages — dead-on replicas of the real site — to push their malicious software and make it look like it's safe stuff coming from a trusted source.

Google Goggles prevents EUI – emails under the influence

Google engineer, Jon Perlow, came up with Google Goggles after he sent an email to an ex-girlfriend after a long night of drinking. He asked her if they could get back together and apparently things didn’t work out very well.

“Hopefully Mail Goggles will prevent many of you out there from sending messages you wish you hadn't. Like that late night memo -- I mean mission statement -- to the entire firm,” writes Perlow.

You enable Goggles by going into Gmail’s settings and then labs. After enabling Goggles and saving the changes, you’ll see a green lab beaker next to your user name. Then go back into settings to set up the days and times you want Goggles to be activated. So if you party hard on Friday nights, you might want to set this thing to hit on Fridays from 8 PM to 3 AM. You can also set the difficulty of the math problems from 1 being the easiest to 5 being the most difficult.

If you try to send an email during the enabled times, you’ll be presented with five math problems after you click the send button. The problems are a mix of easy addition, subtraction, division and multiplication problems (don’t worry there’s no trig or calculus here) which should pose no problems if you’re sober or Asian. The test must be completed successfully in 60 seconds or the email will be rejected. Here’s the weird thing, you can take the test an unlimited number of times and the test doesn’t work on the iPhone.

So far the reaction to the new Gmail feature has been mixed. KPIX-TV’s Kiet Do tested a bunch of drinkers at a local pub and many couldn’t complete the problems in the allotted time. Some people told Do that Goggles was a great idea, but another patron said, “I hate this to be honest with you."
